We already have the moon: Shaan Shahid's take on India's lunar landing irks fans
India’s highly anticipated space mission, Chandrayaan 3, finally made it’s landing on the moon on August 23. While celebrities in India and Pakistan alike celebrated the milestone, taking to Twitter and Instagram to congratulate the team of the Indian Space Research Organization, it seems that Shaan Shahid had a rather different take on India’s big feat.
The well known Pakistani actor and director is known for the love of his country and his comments, from time to time, are proof of the same. In his take, the Zarrar actor took to Twitter in a rather patriotic spirit, posting a picture of the Pakistan flag. In the caption, Shahid makes a comment pertaining to the symbol of the moon on the flag, claiming that while we may locally not have the resources to send a space vessel to the moon, it can be seen as “already having come to us.”
The director’s tweet garnered mixed reactions from his followers. Many trolls took to making fun of the precedent, calling the Waar actor “delusional” and asking him what he had been taking to make such comments in the air. However, it seems that Shahid was unbothered by such remarks as he replied claiming that hope is what he was ultimately holding on to for the nation.
Others, however, seemed to take a critical approach to his comment. Some took to reminding the star how such statements should be made with caution given his stature and influence over the common public while others chose to have a critical discussion in the comments pertaining to the realities surrounding the current political and economical situation in the country. The actor was called out for harbouring blatant misconceptions about the abilities of the population and the availability of resources.
