‘Govt to present recovery plan in a few days’

Solangi says interim set-up to follow ECP timeline on elections

Caretaker Finance Minister Shamshad Akhtar would present an economic recovery plan in a few days, Information Minister Murtaza Solangi said on Thursday.

Talking to the media Solangi said that the interim government would hold the general election in accordance with the timeline set by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

“The election will be conducted on the date which the Election Commission will announce,” he said. “We stand by the Election Commission's stance, as we do not have any intention to take its powers back,” he added.

The minister noted that the ECP was bound to carry out delimitation exercise under Article 51 of the Constitution, adding that the election supervisor had already issued a plan in this regard.

In accordance with Article 218(3) of the Constitution, he added, the caretaker government would provide all-out support to the ECP for holding free, fair and transparent elections.

Solangi said that coming elected government would inherit the economy in better shape from the caretaker government. He added that the caretaker finance minister would present an economic recovery plan in a few days.
