Crackdown against hardened criminals directed

The caretaker Minister for Home and Prison to intensify crackdown on drug paddlers

Police arrests 62 street criminals and nabbed over 600 beggars during its special campaign to control street crime.

KARACHI:

The caretaker Minister for Home and Prison Brig. (retd) Haris Nawaz has directed police to mobilise the existing resources and to launch a crackdown against street criminals and initiate a well-devised plan to control the traffic congestion on major roads of the city.

He further directed to intensify the crackdown on drug paddlers and adopt practical measures to eliminate the drug menace from the educational institutions.

"The role of community and welfare organisations in the area should be made viable to eliminate the drug menace from society," he added. Nawaz said this while presiding over a meeting on law and order during his visit to Karachi Police Office (KPO) on Thursday.

The meeting was attended by Home Secretary Syed Ejaz Ali Shah, Additional IGP Karachi Jawed Aalam Odho, and Karachi Zonal DIGs and District SSPs.

The minister also directed the Additional IGP to ensure deployment of police at all the hotspots and intensify police patrolling. He further directed the police to take strict and prompt action against street criminals and arrest the wanted criminals, social outcasts and proclaimed offenders.
