In a development that is no longer surprising, girls completely swept the top positions in the intermediate (grades 11 and 12) annual examinations of the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) the results of which were announced on Wednesday.
In the pre-medical group, Eishal Shahnoor Fatima of the Punjab College Campus of Hill House Boarding School, Islamabad, secured the top position with 1,075 marks.
Haniya Usman of the Army Public School and College (Girls), Rawalpindi Cantonment, obtained second position with 1,072 marks while Rida Malik, also from the Army Public School and College, came third with 1,066 marks.
In the pre-engineering group, Ushba Fatima from Army Public School, Rawalpindi Cantt, secured first position with 1,069 marks.
Two of her schoolmates, Ayesha Zafar (1,059 marks) and Zoya Ahmad (1,054 marks) bagged the second and third positions respectively.
In the science general group, Hira Arif from KRL Model College for Girls, Kahuta, took first position with 1,045 marks.
Mahnoor Tarar from Army Public School and College, Askari- XIV, Rawalpindi, was second with 1,044 marks and Ummara Amin from Islamabad Model College for Girls, I-8/4, got the third highest number of marks.
In the commerce group, Hamda Ashfaq from Punjab College, Attock Refinery Road, Rawalpindi secured first position with 1,064 marks, while her batchmate Gulshan Fatima landed the second position with 1,031 marks.
Imaan Khan from Punjab College of Information Technology, Islamabad, came third.
In the humanities group, Hafiza Tanzeela Sehar from Askari College (Girls Wing), Rawalpindi, bagged the first position with 1,018 marks.
Aafaf Tahir from Pakistan International School (Pakistan Section), Saudi Arabia got the second position with 1,003 marks.
The third position was obtained by Saleeha Nawaz from Fauji Foundation College for Girls, Rawalpindi.
The board announced the results at a special celebration where its chairman, Qaiser Alam, revealed that 86,495 candidates were enrolled for the second-year exam while 88,381 candidates were enrolled in the first year.
The success percentage in part II was 83.86 per cent while for part-I it was 61.82 per cent, he said.
The exams were held between May 30 and July 22, with results announced 42 days after its conclusion.
The chairman added that they had switched to an electronic marking system while the pass percentage would now be 40 per cent.
