UoP seeks cash injection amid salary crisis

Letter specifies that the university requires Rs325m to settle its financial obligations for the upcoming month

PESHAWAR:

The University of Peshawar (UoP) is once again grappling with financial constraints, as a recent letter addressed to the Higher Education Department highlights its inability to cover employee salaries for August.

The province’s largest university has urgently requested funds from the provincial government to address its pressing financial challenges.

The letter specifies that the university requires Rs325 million to settle its financial obligations for the upcoming month. Within this amount, Rs200 million is earmarked for employee salaries, while Rs35 million is needed to cover electricity expenses. Additionally, Rs100 million is required for pension disbursements to retired staff members, and Rs20 million is sought for miscellaneous expenditures.

The acting vice chancellor of the university emphasized the potential ramifications if the funds are not released promptly.

He pointed out that the situation not only affects staff members’ well-being but also hampers other crucial university functions.
