Robber killed in police encounter, two others escape

Deceased was wanted in 31 cases, say police

PAKPATTAN:

A robber was killed in an alleged encounter with the police in Qabula, Punjab, on Monday. Two other bandits managed to escape.

The incident occurred when three armed robbers snatched 50,000 rupees in cash and a CD 70 motorcycle from a citizen near 89 EB. The robbers fled towards Chowk Marla, firing in the air to resist arrest.

A police team led by DSP Malik Tariq Awan and SHO Qabula Police Station, Sub Inspector Zaman Rasheed, blockaded Nehar Khadir Pul after determining the escape route of the robbers.

The police team and the robbers came face to face on the bridge.The robbers opened fire on the police, who retaliated.

The firing continued for some time, during which one of the robbers was killed by the firing of his accomplices. The other two robbers managed to escape in the darkness.

The deceased robber was identified as Ali Muhammad, a resident of Mustaqam Mahonka. He was wanted by Papattan police in 31 different cases of robbery and shooting on resistance during robberies within the limits of different police stations.

He was also wanted in different cases by district Sahiwal and Bahawalnagar police.

An illegal Kalashnikov, two magazines, the snatched motorcycle, and cash were recovered from the deceased robber. A heavy contingent of police has cordoned off the area and the search for the two escaped robbers is ongoing. The body of the deceased robber has been shifted to the hospital for post-mortem.

Earlier on August 7, two robbers were killed in an alleged encounter.

Police said the robbers had targeted a mobile shop in the jurisdiction of Chowk Parana police station and attempted to flee. When the police pursued them, the culprits opened fire on the officers.
