Robbers loot valuables worth Rs10 million

Dacoits hold 17 and 11-year-old boys hostage as they looted cash, jewellery and mobile phones before escaping

Armed robbers took away cash and other items worth more than Rs10 million from a house in a private housing society within the limits of the Rawat police station area of Rawalpindi on Sunday.

According to the police, the dacoits held 17 and 11-year-old boys hostage as they looted cash, jewellery and mobile phones before making good their escape.

Complainant Tahira Shah in her complaint told the police that she had left the house with her mother for necessary work while her 17-year-old son along with her maid’s 11-year-old child were at home.

“When I came back after one and a half to two hours, my son – who was visibly upset, told me that he was in his room when three armed accused forcefully entered his room,” the contents of the FIR said. “After holding me hostage at gunpoint, one of them asked me to show them the mother's room.”

The complainant told the police that when her child went to the lower portion of the house, he saw that the maid’s son was also held hostage by other robbers. The accused locked both of them in a room and started searching for valuables in other rooms.

The complainant claimed that the accused stole PKR1.5 million, $9,700, 32 tola gold ornaments, a diamond pendant and two expensive mobile phones from the house.

The police registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi CPO Khalid Hamdani took notice of the incident and issued instructions to the SP of Saddar and Rawat Police to trace and arrest the accused.
