We never get bored of each other: Usman Mukhtar on his marriage and more

Actor opens up about his life in Islamabad

In a recent interview, Usman Mukhtar takes the audience on a tour of Islamabad, while talking about his childhood and life. He speaks about the city he grew up in, his marriage and his future projects.

In conversation with Fuchsia Magazine, the actor fondly said, “Islamabad has always been home for me.” While comparing Karachi to Islamabad, he commented that in Karachi “People are more about work” and the city itself is “lesser green more grey”. When asked about his favourite memories of the city, he was quick to mention Black beards: “Every old Islamabadi knows about Black beards.” Along the lines of food, he praised Karachi for its culinary prowess saying “Karachi has no doubt really good food” but he specified that Afghani Pulao in Islamabad is unbeatable.

The Parchi actor fondly reminisced his time with Kuch Khaas, Centre for Arts, Culture and Dialogue. He proudly said it was the place “where i started” and that “this place to me is very close to my heart”. Speaking of his then boss, ‘Poppy’ he added, “Shayan Afzal was like a mother to all of us”.

The 38-year-old actor also gave his views on the current trajectory of the Pakistan showbiz industry. “I do not know why we are not improving,” he lamented. Further elaborating on scripts, he said they are "not that good” and “we are going backwards”.

The Janaan actor also spoke about his upcoming projects, one of which is Umro Ayyar. “Umro’s teaser is going to come out soon”, said Mukhtar, adding that it will be “Pakistan’s first sci-fi fantasy film”.

Mukhtar opened up about his boarding school memories of Umro Ayyar: stating that his mother would pick him up from boarding school, “We would go to Mall Road and there was a book shop there and I would ask her to buy me those''.

Further adding that Umro Ayyar was an immediate yes for him, the actor said “When Umro came to me I said done”.

The director turned actor also spoke about his marriage, saying “Zunairah is a really good friend of mine” and “we never get bored with each other”. He also added a small piece of advice: “Get married to the right person who can understand you”.

Mukhtar initially started out his journey as a film director in 2006, having worked on many projects in the past. He got his big break with Janaan in 2016. He then landed a lead role in Parchi (2018) for which he was also a cinematographer. His most recent work was released in June 2022, Gulabo Rani, a horror short film. It was well received and also received the Best Short Film Award at the 2022 Los Angeles Sci-Fi and Horror Festival.
