Election Commission: ‘Local bodies’ polls may be held in 2012’
PM announces polls after finalisation of computerised electoral rolls.
ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Yousa Raza Gilani said that local bodies’ elections may be held in 2012 after the finalisation of computerised electoral rolls in April 2012.
He was speaking to the secretary Election Commission, Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan, who apprised him on the reforms being undertaken by the Election Commission of Pakistan to ensure fair, transparent and credible elections in the country here at the PM House.
Khan informed Gilani that the computerised electoral rolls are being prepared in collaboration with NADRA and the current door to door verification throughout Pakistan is underway until September 2011.
