Brother identifies six assailants out of nine suspected persons who shot at deceased

The murder FIR of journalist Jan Muhammad Mehr, who was shot dead in Sukkur district on August 13, has been lodged nominating 12 suspects with names and four unknown.

Karamullah Mahar, elder brother, claimed that nine persons riding three motorbikes killed his brother who sustained gunshots on his forehead, neck, chest and wrist.

He claimed that he identified six of the assailants including Sher Muhammad alias Sheral, Naseer, Qurban, Roshan, Gulzar and Mir Muhammad, all Mehr by cast, while three others were not known faces.

The identified suspects are all residents of Chak village in Shikarpur district which is also the ancestral village of the martyred journalist.

Six more suspects, named Munawar, Bux Ali, Babar, Mohsin, Jamaluddin and Sohail, all Mehr by cast, have been booked in the FIR for planning the attack. Sheral is also alleged to be among the planners.

According to the complainant, his son Aamir Ali Mehr heard them conspiring to execute the killing at a roadside restaurant in Sukkur on the night of August 12, a day before the killing. Karamullah claimed that he told his younger brother that his life is under threat as his son had heard some known men planning the attack.

Meanwhile, the media workers in Sukkur held a protest on Tuesday and demanded that a judicial commission should be formed to investigate the case. They denounced that the prevailing law and order situation has become a big threat to the journalists.
