When Aamir Khan asked Maulana Tariq Jameel to pray for his film's success
In a recent appearance on the popular television show Had Kar Di, Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi shared heartwarming anecdotes about his interactions with Indian actors Salman Khan and Aamir Khan. The actor also shed light on meeting Maulana Tariq Jameel and how he was instrumental in a meeting between him and a famous Bollywood actor.
When the host pulled up a picture of Salman and Shahid, asking about the context behind it, Shahid explained that his association with Salman was meant to double as a testament to his belief in using celebrity influence to transcend borders.
Given that political tensions between the two bordering countries remain flaring, the cricketing legend hoped he and the respected Indian cinema star would help foster better relations between India and Pakistan. "On one side there's Pakistan and on the other, there's India. We were hoping to do something that would improve relations between the two countries," explained Shahid.
He also spoke highly of Salman's philanthropic endeavours through his foundation, Being Human, and lauded the actor for his role in promoting goodwill. "Salman is doing a great job, as is his foundation (Being Human) and God has given this man a beautiful heart. He's a lovely human being," revealed the cricketer.
However, it's not just with Salman that Shahid forged a cross-border connection. He recounted his first encounter with famed Indian cinema star, Aamir, during a time of disappointment for the Pakistan cricket team. "When we lost the 2011 semi-final of the World Cup, I went inside the room and [Aamir] came to me there. It was our first meeting. He came, sat, and we talked a bit. He praised our performance. We became acquainted," Shahid shared. The bond between them deepened when they embarked on a spiritual journey together.
The former captain of the national cricket team revealed, "We had gone for Umrah, he was there with his mother. We had to meet Maulana Tariq Jameel Sahab, I had to make [Aamir] meet him. This is that image." He referred to the picture of him and the Bollywood star in all-white at Umrah. When asked by the host for confirmation regarding the fact that it was he who connected Aamir to Maulana, he confirmed the same.
Shahid further recounted an amusing incident where Aamir sought the scholar's blessings for his upcoming film. "Aamir's film was about to release and he asked Maulana Sahab to pray for his film. Maulana Sahab gave him a strange look and said, 'Yes, sure,'" Afridi recalled, prompting laughter.
These heartwarming encounters between Shahid, Salman, and Aamir highlight the potential for cultural exchange and friendship to bridge the gap between nations. Through these interactions, Shahid emphasises the power of positivity, kindness, and shared experiences in creating a more harmonious world. The stories shed light on efforts to foster better relations between India and Pakistan, while also showcasing the depth of the connections he has formed with these Bollywood stars.
