ECP set to take action against fake degree holders

ECP is gearing up to take action against parliamentarians who won the 2008 general elections with fake degrees.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is gearing up to take action against parliamentarians who won the 2008 general elections with fake degrees, in line with Supreme Court’s orders.

EC Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed said that the detailed verdict of the Supreme Court has been received. He said a strategy to hold fraudulent parliamentarians accountable will be drafted after the verdict has been reviewed.

Sources said that a committee will be formed under the headship of senior election commission officer. The committee will review the scrutiny process of degress in collaboration with the education commission.

Election Commission and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) will also decide on the timeframe for the completion of the process.

Meanwhile, a demonstration of electronic voting machines was held at the ECP's central office in Islamabad today. The demonstration marked a step forward towards complete computerisation of the country's electoral process.
