Elections in February, says Raja Riaz

Constitutionally, elections are scheduled to be held within a limit of 90 days after dissolution of National Assembly

Hours after Senator Anwaarul Haq Kakar was named as the country’s caretaker prime minister, outgoing Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Raja Riaz maintained that elections would be held in February.

Constitutionally, elections are scheduled to be held within a limit of 90 days – in November – after the dissolution of the National Assembly.

Talking to a private TV channel, Riaz noted that there were always complaints that Balochistan had been deprived of its rights, which is why the interim premier was picked from the province.
When asked about the selection of the caretaker PM, he denied having been given Kakar’s name from any external entity. “I put forward the names independently.”
