ISLAMABAD:

President Arif Alvi on Saturday apologised to a security guard after he was not allowed to enter the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution’s (EOBI) office and denied the pension benefit.

The president also directed the EOBI to apologise to the security guard and to examine the institution’s “unfair treatment” towards low-income workers and unfriendly practices.

“It is shameful to make an ordinary laborer wait for years for a pension.” Alvi opposed the EOBI’s appeal against the federal ombudsman’s decision.

Iftikhar Hussain, who worked for a private security agency, became disabled during service in 2008.
