A total of 17 villages in the Pasrur tehsil were inundated, while the standing seasonal crops over hundreds of acres of land have been destroyed.
According to officials, acres of crops have been ruined due to a flood in Nullah Dek near Tharo Mandi, Pasrur tehsil. Traffic on the main Pasrur Narowal Road remained suspended for the whole day due to the flooding.
Locals in the area said that the Dek was overflowing after the fresh spell of heavy rains in all catchment areas of the neighbouring Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. “The water levels have risen considerably and the low lying villages have been completely inundated. We are still evacuating in some areas,” said District Flood Relief Officer Malik Abid Hussain Awan.
Flood water has inundated 17 villages including Tharo Mandi, Hunjali, Mehtabpur, Jhaatokey, Baseerpur and Nawaadey, besides, badly damaging standing seasonal crops on hundreds of the acres of agricultural land in the area.
Rescue teams have evacuated the villages and are looking to resettle flood victims in nearby relief camps.
According to the Pasrur assistant commissioner Samia Saleem, rescue and relief activities continued in the district under the supervision of Rescue 1122 officials and the district administration.
