PM launches multiple uplift projects

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif unveiled an array of development initiatives on Tuesday, encompassing tube-well solarisation, a health program for journalists, and road projects in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Amidst these unveilings, Shehbaz reaffirmed his dedication to lifting Pakistan out of poverty, eliminating debt, and transforming it into a self-reliant and formidable nation if granted the opportunity in the upcoming elections.

During the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion and restoration of the Islamabad Expressway and the Rawalpindi Ring Road, attended by dignitaries including Army Chief Gen Asim Munir and federal ministers, Shehbaz emphasized the strategic importance of these projects.

He underscored how these endeavors would augment infrastructure, alleviate traffic congestion, invigorate economic growth, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents in the twin cities.

Shehbaz lauded the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) for their contributions and extended gratitude to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) for their execution of these significant projects.

In an effort to revolutionize Pakistan's agricultural landscape, the prime minister launched a groundbreaking Rs377 billion initiative to solarize 100,000 agricultural tube-wells across the nation. Shehbaz asserted that this move is indispensable and the sole pathway to propel the country forward. Emphasizing the monumental significance of solar energy, he asserted its capacity to transcend any other project.

Shehbaz Sharif decried the preceding government's oversight in harnessing the vast potential of hydel and solar energy. He underscored the imperative of providing cost-effective electricity not only for farmers but also for households, businesses, and industries to bolster competitive exports. Though faced with political uncertainties and an IMF agreement limbo, his government's steadfast commitment to low-cost power supply persevered.

The tube-well solarisation scheme will be funded by federal, provincial governments, and farmers, with each party contributing a third of the total cost.

Notably, the government would bear 67% of the share in Islamabad.

Referencing a recent meeting with a Saudi delegation, Shehbaz revealed his invitation to Saudi firms for a $15 billion investment in the 4,000-megawatt Diamer Bhasha Dam project.

Highlighting his dedication to social welfare, Shehbaz inaugurated the Prime Minister's Health Programme for Journalists, Media Workers, Artists, and Technical Resources. Under this scheme, beneficiaries will access premium healthcare services at 1,200 hospitals across the country free of charge.

Additionally, the Pakistan Code, a digital repository of federal laws, was introduced through a mobile app and website, enabling easy access for legal practitioners, government officials, and the public.

In a bid to support the journalistic community, Shehbaz announced the creation of a special fund, promising Rs4 million compensation to families of journalists and media workers who lose their lives in the line of duty. Acknowledging his tenure's scrutiny by the media since assuming office in April 2022, Shehbaz reiterated his unwavering belief in press freedom and refrained from lodging complaints against critical coverage.
