World Breastfeeding Week marked
A seminar and a walk was organised by the DHO Office in Haripur to mark ‘World Breastfeeding Week’.
A comprehensive awareness campaign was also launched across all healthcare facilities in Haripur, aided by the collaborative efforts of the Department of Health, the District Health Office, the special cell for nutrition and UNICEF.
World Breastfeeding Week is observed every year from August 1 to August 7 however Khyber Pakhtunkhwa dedicates the entire month to raising awareness on breastfeeding.
District Health Officer Dr Syed Nasir Shah participated as the chief guest in this event. While addressing the event, he said the mother’s milk is a complete food for the child in every respect and the baby should start breastfeeding as soon as possible after birth.
He further said the Department of Health and Nutrition Cell should create awareness among the people in this regard so that the ratio of breastfeeding to children increases.
