Actor Bipasha Basu recently opened up about her daughter Devi's health journey, revealing that the little one was born with two holes in her heart. In an emotional Instagram Live chat with Neha Dhupia, Bipasha shared how their family faced this challenging situation with love, determination, and courage.
The news of Devi's condition came as a shock to Bipasha and her husband, Karan Singh Grover, just three days after her birth. The doctors advised regular scans to monitor the holes' progress, but given their size, it was unlikely they would heal naturally. The couple remained hopeful, but as time passed, they realized that surgery was the only way to ensure Devi's well-being.
Bipasha shared her emotional struggle, saying, "You feel so sad, burdened, and conflicted because how can you put such a small child through an open-heart surgery." Despite her tears, she was determined to help her daughter heal and sought advice from surgeons and doctors to prepare for the procedure. Though Karan initially hesitated, Bipasha remained steadfast in her decision to proceed with the operation. "I knew she had to be okay. I knew she would be okay. And today, she is okay. It was about getting the operation done at the right time, right place," she said.
“Devi had a very successful operation, and I never had a doubt about it. But the six hours that she was in the OT, my life felt like it stopped,” Bipasha added. She further shared that she spoke to her baby, telling her everything, and she made a noise, giving her a signal that she would be fine.
Nurses in the ICU later described Devi as a source of joy and laughter for everyone around her. Bipasha offered a word of caution to all parents facing similar situations, emphasising the importance of timely intervention. "The fear of operation may cause a delay, but that can only cause more health issues," she said. As the interview concluded, Bipasha expressed gratitude and pride for her brave-hearted daughter, who has inspired them all.
“Karan was a mess, and I had to even throw him out of the ICU sometimes. When I saw her in the ICU first time with all the monitors and a dressing bandage in the middle of her chest, she was lying there as a hero. Devi is our brave heart and very powerful,” asserted Bipasha.
