'Parday Ke Peechay': Hussain Rehar addresses controversy after latest collection comes under fire
Renowned fashion designer Hussain Rehar found himself at the centre of a heated debate after his latest collection, Parday Ke Peechay (Behind the Curtain), sparked allegations of indecency. A now-deleted TikTok video alleged that his latest collection was immodest and made a mockery out of the concept of being veiled. However, Rehar promptly addressed the issue by releasing a statement on Instagram to clarify the intentions behind his collection.
In his statement, Rehar emphasised that the collection was solely an expression of art and fashion, with no intention to reference any religious symbolism, including the concept of a veil. Instead, the collection's name was chosen to symbolise the behind-the-scenes chaos and hard work involved in creating something new and beautiful. Drawing inspiration from the fashion trends of the 90s, the collection sought to allow for a unique expression of one's aesthetic sense.
"I'm writing to address the recent controversy surrounding my new collection, Parday Ke Peechay, which translates to Behind the Curtain," began Rehar. "First and foremost, I want to clarify that this collection is purely an expression of art and fashion, and it was never intended to be associated with any religious aspects. The name, Parday Ke Peechay was chosen to signify 'Behind The Curtain.' The aim is to showcase the chaos and hard work that goes on behind the scenes to create something new and beautiful."
Continuing further, he penned, "It was never meant to reference the concept of a veil or any religious symbolism and it draws inspiration from the fashion trends of the 90s, allowing for a unique expression of one's fashion vocabulary." Rehar passionately stated that his goal was to showcase Pakistan's fashion heritage and celebrate creativity. He also wished to create an impact in the larger fashion world that exists outside of Pakistan.
"My primary objective with this collection is to represent Pakistan's rich fashion heritage and celebrate the country's creativity and artistry. I aspire to showcase Pakistan's cultural diversity not only at the national level but also in the global fashion world. By blending elements from the past with a contemporary touch, I hope to contribute positively to the global fashion landscape," said Rehar.
The designer was also thankful to all those who took an interest in his work and capped his message off with notes of gratitude. "I want to express my gratitude to everyone who has shown interest and support in my work. I believe that fashion is a powerful form of self-expression, and I'm thrilled to share my creative vision with all of you. Thank you for taking the time to read this statement, and I look forward to continuing to share my passion for art and fashion with the world," wrote the designer.
