HYDERABAD:

The Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Kunri, is currently facing an acute shortage of doctors, causing distress among the underprivileged public who rely on government medical facilities. Sindh government and health department have been requested to take an immediate action on the situation.

According to Dr Mubarak Ali Dars, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, the largest government hospital in the Tehsil, has 50 vacancies for various specialists.

Unfortunately, only nine doctors are currently available, leaving 41 positions unfilled for a long period, he said.

Furthermore, the operation theatre remains inactive due to non-availability of anaesthetists.

Every day, over a thousand patients with various ailments seek treatment at the hospital, but due to the shortage of doctors, they are unable to get the medical facilities.

The situation has been exacerbated by the government’s delayed process to appointment doctors from a list of 93 doctors issued by the Sindh Public Service Commission.

This critical situation is a direct consequence of negligence and indifferent response by the Sindh government and health department, leading to the failure in providing adequate government medical treatment facilities.

As a result, the impoverished population, already burdened by inflation, is forced to rely heavily on expensive private medical centres and charity.

Moreover, ensuring timely appointments and availability of doctors will significantly benefit the needy and underprivileged individuals who are struggling during this challenging time.

It is imperative for the authorities to take prompt action to safeguard the well-being of the public and ensure access to government medical facilities.
