Floods cause havoc in riverine areas
A critical situation has emerged as floods continue to wreak havoc on riverine areas and neighboring regions within the district, according to reliable sources from the Irrigation department.
The floodwaters have engulfed hundreds of acres of standing crops and flooded dozens of residential houses over the past few days. At Head Taunsa Barrage on the Indus River in Daera Din Panah area of Kot Addu, rapid river erosion is occurring downstream, resulting in a huge crack at riverine Super 30-RD due to the forceful flow and speed of water.
The rupture has the potential to submerge low-lying areas connected to the Chenab River. To mitigate the situation, teams from the Irrigation department are working tirelessly to fill the rupture with stones using heavy machinery.
In another unfortunate incident, hundreds of acres of land have been reported submerged at Landi Pitafi in Tehsil Jatoi, while standing crops in Kundrala, Tehsil Alipur, have been decimated in the aftermath of the surging flood.
