Gal Gadot all set to return as Wonder Woman in third film

Israeli actor confirmed that talks with directors James Gunn and Peter were well in the works

Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, first released in 2017, was a blockbuster success amounting to $821.74 million, according to Forbes. Now, despite rumours of the film being shelved before a third film, it seems Gadot is all set to put on the armour yet again.

While DC experiences changes in its leadership, the controversial actor, who rose to fame playing the beloved superheroine, confirmed in an interview with ComicBook.com that talks with James Gunn and Peter Safran regarding a third Wonder Woman film were well in the works.

“I love portraying Wonder Woman. It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re going to develop a Wonder Woman 3 together,” said Gadot.

Late last year, rumours fuelled the fan base regarding screenwriter and director Patty Jenkins has left the project, some in regards to fluctuating relationships at Warner Brothers and some regarding her vision for the third film not matching that of the studio.

Through a post on Twitter, Jenkins stated, “I never walked away. I was open to considering anything asked of me. It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now.”

However, despite rising tensions, Gunn expressed his support in the same post by writing, “I can attest that all of Peter and my interactions with you were only pleasant and professional,” he said.

While the future of Jenkins’ script and affiliation with the Wonder Woman franchise still remains undetermined, it is safe to say the film will most likely be produced with the return of Gadot starring as the superhero protagonist – regardless of the writer’s return or not.

The adored character first appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, quickly rising in popularity after being declared an honorary ambassador for the empowerment of women and girls by the United Nations, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. CNN, however, confirmed that the character had later been dropped from the title following speculation of her being an overly-sexualised representation.

Regardless of the controversy, Gadot starred in a solo film playing Diana Prince and later returned for Wonder Woman 1984 which was released in 2020. Now, the story is said to likely pick up again.
