RAWALPINDI:

As many as nine Station House Officers (SHOs) of the Rawalpindi police were removed from their post over failure to curb street crime. According to sources, the City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani has taken action in response to the rising incidents of street crime.

The newly appointed SHOs, include Inspector Akbar Abbas, Inspector Tariq Mehmood, Inspector Muhammad Arshad, and others. The officials have been given clear instructions to enhance their performance and tackle criminal activities effectively.

Earlier this month, Rawalpindi Operations SSP Aamir Niazi was removed from his post and ordered to report to the Central Police Office in Lahore following serious allegations against him.

Punjab Inspector General (IG) of Police Dr Usman Anwar had appointed DIG Idrees Malik as the inquiry officer to investigate the allegations.

Sources revealed that SSP Niazi had taken a few days of leave but did not return after the leave period ended. He subsequently applied for additional leaves. Due to reasons unrelated to the recent allegations, SSP Niazi was not eligible for departmental promotion, which reportedly caused dissatisfaction.

Matters under probe against the police officer included the case of a recovered abducted child from Lahore in Rawalpindi, complaints from female police officers, and issues related to the former SHO of Newtown police station, and other officials.

After completing the inquiry, DIG Malik was asked to submit the inquiry report to the Punjab IG.
