ISLAMABAD:

The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday directed the authorities to submit the audit report of Gun and Country Club after its thorough compilation.

A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the case.

The bench observed that the club was a national asset, which was built to provide facilities to the people, but mismanagement of its affairs was damaging its reputation.

“The officials concerned should take the matter serious instead of making it an issue of ego,” CJ Bandial added.

The court also instructed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to address the issues pertaining to the club, including its lease matter, in consultation with the federal government.

It noted that the club’s management had already hired the services of a private audit company, directing the authorities to submit the audit report.

Inter Provincial Coordination additional secretary assured to present the bill 2023 in parliament in the current week regarding the legislation of Gun and Country Club.

During the hearing, lawyer Naeem Bukhari said that the services of a private company had been taken through bidding for the audit of Gun and Country Club. Justice Bandial said that the Gun and Country Club's arrangements had become infamous. “Additional secretary! Take this case seriously, don't make it a problem of ego, it is a national asset.”

Justice Bandial said, “The Gun and Country Club is there to provide facilities to people and not just to collect benefits.”

The court said to complete the audit of the club in two weeks and submit the report, then they would hear the case again.

Lawyer Bukhari said, “I am going abroad for a month, so instead of two weeks, adjourn the hearing till one month.”

The chief justice said with a smile that after a month another bench would hear this case.

The court adjourned further hearing of the case for a month.
