Under-construction drain turns deadly for children playing nearby in rain

KARACHI:

A three-year-old boy lost his life after he fall into an under-construction drain in Kausar Niazi Colony, North Nazimabad.

According to reports, the unfortunate incident took place when children were joyfully playing in the rain. Among them, some kids were near the under-construction drain when a section of the drain suddenly collapsed due to a blast of gas accumulated in the drain. Three-year old Ajmal, who was near it, fell into the drain. Nearby residents rushed to rescue him but their efforts could not save the minor boy.

Area residents expressed their concerns about the long and delayed construction work of drain, which has caused the incident.

Later, the body of the child was retrieved from the drain and shifted to the hospital for legal procedures. The father of the deceased child was at work when he received the devastating news. The blame for this tragedy has been put on government institutions responsible for the delayed completion of the project.

Residents have appealed to the government to take action against the responsible.

Notably, this was not the only incident, as the area has witnessed eight deaths by falling into the drain in a stretch from Kausar Niazi Colony to Wahid Colony during the last two years.

The child's parents have not yet approached the police to file a formal case.
