ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) hosted a unique and exciting artist talk and a one-day painting workshop by a very well-known German contemporary artist, Dagmar Rauwald.

Dagmar is on a short trip to Pakistan and on Tuesday she visited PNCA to deliver a talk followed by a workshop.

It was a new experience for the participants where they will learn about the practice of an international artist, along with a workshop, including demonstrations on tools and techniques used by Dagmar.

Dagmar’s art practice focuses on emotional expressiveness and gestural painting that is a reminder of the Action painting or Art informal of the 50s of the 20th century.

She uses canvas and polythene as her material of choice for her fantastical and abstract paintings. Her paintings depict figures and portraits in carefully created layers through paint.

Dagmar is considered to be one of the senior artists in Europe. She has shown her artworks in numerous galleries worldwide. Her latest exhibition in Pakistan is on display at the COMSATS art gallery till Wednesday (today).

Dagmar gave an overview of her art practice living in Germany and how the natural surroundings evolve an artist’s work.

There was a small question and answer session as well where Dagmar guided the participants about their creative practices. The artist talk was then followed by a demonstration of how to make fun and interactive paintings before the commencement of the workshop and guided the participants throughout.

Dagmar presented a painting for the PNCA permanent collection.
