RAWALPINDI:

Funds for the Nullah Leh Expressway and Maternal and Child Hospital have been received and work on these projects would be started soon, said Dr Jamal Nasir, the Punjab caretaker minister for primary and secondary healthcare.

He said this while reviewing the situation of drainage from Nullah Leh at Gawalmandi and Arya Mohalla following rains. He was accompanied by the chief minister’s aide Kanwar Dilshad, Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chatha, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Director General Saif Anwar Jappa and Deputy Commissioner Hasan Waqar Cheema. The managing director of Water and Sanitation Agency and other concerned officials were also part of the delegation.

“There is a possibility of heavy rains so there is a need to stay alert,” he said while noting that Rawalpindi would get submerged when it rained 150 mm. “But despite over 200 mm of rain, the drains did not overflow,” he claimed while lauding the city administration for their work.

The minister added that action was being taken against those who throw garbage and construction material around Nullah Leh. He added that the administration was taking action against those involved in encroachment. Drones were being user to monitor flow, he continued.
