BAHAWALPUR:

The Vice Chancellor of the Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB), Prof. Dr. Athar Mehboob, has written a letter to the IG of Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, requesting the latter to form an inquiry team to probe the drug scandal.

Several days ago, police had arrested Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) Chief Security Officer Ijaz Shah and reportedly seized ice (crystal meth), aphrodisiacs and objectionable videos of university officials and students from his two mobile phones.

Moreover, police on Saturday arrested university’s transport in charge, Altaf, and allegedly eight grams of ice were recovered from his possession.

Meanwhile, some new aspects have emerged in the investigation into the alleged drug scandal at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur.

According to sources, police had claimed in a special report that “a group of teachers of the university is involved in drug peddling as well as sexual exploitation of students and teachers”.

Police had sent a forensic report to caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi which alleged that a group of university teachers “used to sexually exploit and blackmail female students. For this purpose, drugs, alcohol and marijuana were used to trap them. Such activities were carried out with the help of the security in charge of the university”.
