Online portal helps 77 youths find employment
Out of the 3,000 enrolled youngsters, the Punjab Job Centre – which was established to curb unemployment among educated and skilled youths – has successfully secured jobs for the 77 jobless individuals through the Rawalpindi Labour Welfare Department.
According to sources, the centre, which was designed to provide an online platform to create a bridge between potential employers and workers, was in the process of securing more jobs for unemployed youths with 400 employers.
They said the option of approaching overseas employment promoters was also under consideration to get the skilled youth employed in foreign countries.
According to detail, the Punjab Job Centre, established in the office of the labour department, sent the data of 3,000 enrolled individuals comprising engineers, commerce graduates, skilled persons, students and employed persons seeking better employment opportunities, to the private sector institutions, including mills, factories and medical stores etc.
In this regard, Punjab Job Centre Assistant Muhammad Mosaddiq told The Express Tribune that visits are conducted to the mills, factories, chambers and colleges for the registration/enrolment of educated unemployed youth and the compiled data is shared with the potential employers and suitable candidates are sent to them as per their requirements.
Rawalpindi Labour Welfare Department Director Samiullah Khan said: “By enrolling the unemployed youths, who fall under the definition of educated and skilled persons, their academic and skill record is shared with potential employers.”
He went on to add that based on the enrolment after the scrutiny, the qualified candidates get employment after taking the interview and test for a particular job.
Khan further said it also enabled the compilation of data pertaining to the number of educated and skilled individuals who were facing unemployment.
“It is a good option to share the data of the unemployed youths with overseas employers for foreign jobs. This will enable them to find employment abroad,” he said.
Khan added that the Punjab Job Centre was a revolutionary step of the government to employ educated and skilled youth.
It should be noted that the Punjab government established e-Job Centres across the province under the Labour and Human Resource Departments for providing career counselling and bridging the gap between employers and potential employees.
