It was hypocritical: Resham responds to Sakina Samo's age-old take on her Pride of Performance award

After two years, actor demands to know what irked the director so much about the honour being bestowed on her

During an interview on The Talk Talk Show, actor Resham was asked if she had any advice for Sakina Samo, who had expressed her disappointment at the government of Pakistan for awarding the actor and singer Ali Zafar the Pride of Performance.

To this, the former Lollywood star said that she does not wish to speak of such “hypocrites”. And in a split second, she decided to go against her decision and speak up. Resham declared that although she has remained quiet, she was taken aback by Samo’s comments because the latter had been nice to her during a play they did together.

Resham also maintained that the civil honour was a result of her hard work; a fruit of her labour. And if Samo has done work, then she has done “better work”. “I would not like to talk about her… Such people are hypocrites,” began Resham. “May God forgive us all. I didn’t say anything when it happened either. She felt so devastated. She was so, so upset that Ali Zafar and I received the Pride of Performance that she came after us. When you receive it, it’s based on merit. When I receive it, it’s not? You became so upset so quickly, why?” asked The Legend of Maula Jatt actor.

“I mean… I once worked on a play with her titled Maafi,” Resham continued. “She is such a good director, she directed everyone so well. She was also very happy with my work. But look at the hypocrisy now. You are saying these things to the world, say them to my face, you have my number,” declared the star. “What made you so angry?” she asked. “I have worked all my life, Sakina jee. If you have worked then thank God, thank God, I have done better work. I have entertained people so much. These people are intolerant,” lamented the Kaaf Kangana actor.

Resham went on to reflect how, in today’s day and age, people stir up controversies to get noticed. “And I have also seen some people do this. They will say something controversial just so their photo is shared next to someone else’s on social media with a headline. I have never stooped so low. You go ask Shaan, ask Humayun, I have always given respect to my seniors and will continue to do so. Any senior, any junior that I have worked with, ask them all; not one person can say that Resham has been disrespectful or fought with someone,” she maintained.

“So many people called me, congratulated me. Who are you to have a problem with me in the first place? Who are you?” she asked.

Back in 2021, Samo shared in an exclusive chat with The Express Tribune, “I personally believe the choice for Pride of Performance is becoming increasingly simple and easy and as a result, a number of personalities who have dedicated their entire careers often go unnoticed.” She added, “It is sad that the government has given such a huge award to people like Resham and Ali Zafar, who in my opinion, don’t really deserve it.” While Samo was happy for herself and Bushra Ansari for also receiving the honour, she felt that it was high time that veteran star Uzma Gilani was also recognised for her contributions to the field of entertainment.

Speaking about her achievement, Resham, on the other hand, said, “Recognition doesn't see your gender so no one can stop anyone from climbing the ladder of success and fame. I am grateful for my Pride of Performance, and it won’t be wrong to say that I have worked tirelessly to serve my country.”
