KE consumers to see hike of Rs2.33/unit
K-Electric (KE) consumers are bracing for a potential increase in electricity rates by Rs2.33 per unit, as the company filed a petition for Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) for June 2023 at a rate of Rs2.336 per unit.
The public hearing for this matter is scheduled for July 26, 2023.
The positive FCA for June 2023 is attributed to the utilisation of fuel sources based on economic merit order and the increase in the price of Furnace Oil (FO), partially offset by a decrease in the price of regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG).
FO witnessed a 6% price hike compared to the reference month of March. Conversely, the price of RLNG purchased from Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) decreased by 6%, RLNG from Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) decreased by 2%, and power purchased from Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G) decreased by 1%.
The final decision on the latter is subject to National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA)’s approval.
