Amid infidelity allegations, Amir Khan is willing to take therapy to ‘stop sexting other women’
Amir Khan, the former world champion boxer, is willing to undergo therapy to address his habit of sexting other women, as he seeks to reconcile with his wife, Faryal Makhdoom. The couple's marriage has been marred by allegations of infidelity in the past. Faryal confronted Amir after reading a story about his explicit messages to a model. Acknowledging his mistakes and the hurt he has caused his wife, Amir has now offered his apologies and said that he is open to take professional help.
In conversation with The Sun, Amir was asked whether Faryal thinks he needs professional help. “That question hasn't been brought up before. But maybe I do need help to stop myself from messaging other women. I am willing to go to therapy to stop sending texts to women who aren't my wife. I think nowadays, with mental health issues, any help goes a long way. It's definitely something I would do. Things like that do help, so maybe it's something to think about,” he said.
Amir Khan cheated – yet again
The incident that triggered Faryal's confrontation with Amir occurred when she discovered his flirtatious messages to a bridal model named Sumaira. The messages, which began with compliments on Sumaira's tattoos, quickly escalated to explicit content. Furious about the exchange, Faryal chastised Amir, questioning why he would seek the company of other women when he had a "diamond" at home. Amir admitted that his actions were regrettable and that he had disrespected his wife.
"It's not nice what I've done. One day my kids will grow up and read this stuff, and it will upset them. I don't think I was cheating; it was just a few texts. But I regret doing it. I can only apologize to Faryal. People have been messaging her about it, saying, 'Did you see this article?' — rubbing it in her face. It's sad,” he exclaimed.
The I'm A Celebrity… star explained that he finds himself making such mistakes out of “boredom”. With his professional boxing days behind him, he feels the need to find new avenues for fulfilment and is considering returning to training, participating in exhibitions, and exploring opportunities in television. "The stupidest thing I did was to comment on this woman's picture saying 'nice'. I shouldn't have done it. I have respect for my wife. I think I do these things out of boredom — I don't think it's that I can't help myself. You get bored and start making mistakes,” Amir shared.
If I'm not careful, I will get myself into trouble — especially with the wife. She will end up saying, 'I've had enough'. My missus is my queen, and I don't want to hurt her. Our marriage is great at the moment,” he added.
After an article exposed Amir’s flirtatious exchange with Sumaira, the latter reportedly asked him for £20,000, claiming to be going through a difficult period. She later threatened to expose more of their messages on TikTok. Amir defended himself against Sumaira's accusations, suggesting that women “often approach him seeking personal gain.”
Faryal breaks silence, calls herself a ‘victim’
Faryal, the British-Pakistani socialite, took to her Instagram on Sunday with a detailed note addressing the infidelity row that has become a scandal for their marriage. Refusing to wash dirty laundry in public, she stated, "After a long week of accusations, slander and harassment, I have now decided it is time to address the situation that has unfolded. I will not play into the spectacle created by others.”
Faryal exclaimed that she is tired of tolerating her "private conversations dissected and torn apart" by an "alleged legal representative" of Sumaira as part of a "hate campaign."
She said, “I played no part in the situation and am, in fact, the victim. I will stand strong in my stance that I did not owe Sumaira anything more than a civil conversation," she added. Faryal continued, "Sumaira only decided to contact me directly after taking Amir's number, sharing life stories and images all whilst under Amir's clear instructions of not messaging him while I was around, as stated by Sumaira's own 'legal representative' in her Instagram live in which Amir had said to Sumaira 'don't message me, I'll message, my wife is here.'"
She alleged that since Sumaira always knew Amir was a married man, she was only speaking to him to gather evidence to ruin the couple’s reputation later. "I knew what the outcome of this situation would be and I forewarned her not to take this to social media. I explained that the situation would cause immense embarrassment not only for her but for my family also, and that in the end, no one wins. Unfortunately, this is how the world works and we have to be realistic with our expectations when there are two people in the public eye," the mother-of-three remarked.
However, Faryal holds both her husband and the girl he cheated on her with accountable. "Amir and Sumera are both adults who engaged in consented communication. They did not consult me when exchanging messages nor did they consider or respect me when building a 'bond'. I will not be dragged through the mud now for not 'supporting another woman'. This woman had no respect or regard for me as a woman and as Amir's wife. There was also no consideration of my mental health as a result of this entire humiliating ordeal which I would have to deal with and address publicly," she suggested.
This isn’t the first time Faryal had to deal with Amir’s infidelity. Earlier in 2018, Faryal claimed that he no longer cheats on her now that he’s an “old man” but admitted that they have “been through hell and back.” The 34-year-old fighter has been accused of cheating on his wife more than nine times but vowed he is a “changed man,” according to The Mirror. Well, apparently not!
In a Kardashians-fashioned fly-on-the-wall TV show, Faryal, said the only reason she stayed with Amir was because she did not want to “give up” on the father of their children.
The couple tied the knot in 2013, later announcing to part ways in 2017 but reconciled. Amir and Faryal have 3 children — Lamaisah, eight, Alayna, four and two-year-old Muhammad. They have also appeared together in the BBC series Meet the Khans: Big in Bolton.
