Karachi seen through photojournalists’ lens

An exhibition showcasing the magnificent photography of Karachi’s historic buildings and renowned landmarks was held at Frere Hall on Monday. The event, organised by the Pakistan Print and Electronic Media Foundation, took place at the esteemed Sadequain Art Gallery within Frere Hall. The exhibition displayed captivating photographs taken by dedicated photojournalists during their professional duties, attracting attendees from diverse backgrounds.

The exhibition featured a collection of still photographs capturing the essence of both the city’s old and new architectural marvels. Renowned photographers such as Asif Hassan, Rehan Khan, Rizwan Tabassum, Qaiser Saeed, Hussain Raza, Shabbir Shah, and Masood Abidi presented their artistic vision through striking images. Additionally, the exhibition showcased breathtaking views of the coastline and captivating day and night scenes meticulously captured by the photographers’ lenses.

The participating photographers emphasised the arduous nature of their profession, dispelling the misconception that their work is merely a matter of capturing a moment in an instant. They explained that photography requires a keen eye for detail and creativity, where each element of the scene is carefully considered. While advancements in technology have brought certain conveniences to the field, the quest for excellence and capturing scenes that are both exceptional and captivating remains as challenging as ever.

Other participants viewed the displayed photographs as historical artifacts, documenting the city’s journey from the present to the past. They emphasised the significance of these images, as they serve as a visual record, immortalising the city’s heritage in the annals of history. The exhibition also featured heartwarming pictures of school children and other captivating snapshots taken with cameras, further adding to its appeal.
