Crackdown continues against helmet rule violators in Pindi

CTP issues challans to over 30,000 motorcyclists over a span of 10 days

RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (CTP) in its rigorous crackdown against helmet rule violation issued challans to more than 30,000 motorcyclists and imposed a fine of Rs4.6 million in 10 days.

In response to the alarming rise in fatalities and injuries among motorcyclists in traffic accidents across Punjab, including Rawalpindi, the authorities have taken significant measures to promote road safety. One such measure is the enforcement of mandatory helmet usage for motorcyclists, accompanied by strict adherence to traffic regulations.

To ensure the implementation, restrictions such as denying petrol at fuel stations to individuals without helmets, prohibiting travelling on roads without helmets, and no parking in designated parking lots without helmets have been imposed.

Rawalpindi Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Taimur Khan said the purpose of this crackdown is not to collect revenue through challans but to ensure the safety of citizens. He further said 970 motorcycles were impounded due to the absence of licences and helmets adding that the release of these motorcycles is contingent upon fulfilling the requirements.

Moreover, to enforce traffic regulations, the CTP has introduced a practice of affixing stickers on helmets. This measure ensures that the same motorcyclist consistently uses the same helmet, thereby promoting adherence to safety protocols and the enforcement of traffic rules.
