The medical superintendents of the district headquarters (DHQ) hospitals in Punjab have been authorised to sanction expenditure of up to Rs10 million for efficient functioning of facilities and meeting urgent needs, including purchase of medicine and equipment.
The basic health units (BHUs) and municipal dispensaries will be upgraded as filter clinics for providing better treatment facilities to the patients at the local level and to reduce pressure on hospitals in big cities, Caretaker Primary and Secondary Healthcare Minister Dr Jamal Nasir said.
As per an official statement, he said no BHU or municipal dispensary was being closed down and a notification in this regard had been withdrawn.
He said a special grant of Rs20 million would be given to Mandi Bahauddin DHQ Hospital.
He said the provincial cabinet had approved renaming of the Kadur DHQ Hospital as Baba Bulleh Shah Hospital. The name of the Faisalabad DHQ Hospital has been changed to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Hospital.
