Senior customs officers removed

FBR probes into corruption allegations involving billions of rupees

KARACHI:

Despite being the weekly holiday on Sunday, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Headquarters in Karachi issued instructions for the investigations into alleged corruption worth billions of rupees against the collectors of Pakistan Customs.

After the allegations of corruption, Grade 20 collectors have been removed and new officers have been appointed, along with the issuance of formal notifications.

Saqib Saeed, the Director of Transit Trade, has been relieved of his duties and ordered to report to the FBR Headquarters.

Collectors Osman Bajwa and Aamer Taheem have also been removed from their positions and instructed to report to the FBR Headquarters in Islamabad.

According to the notification, Basit Maqsood Abbasi has been appointed as the Collector of Customs Enforcement Karachi, while Sadiya Shiraz has been given the additional charge of Director Transit Trade.
