Painting exhibition puts city’s past on canvas

Hamir Soomro etches delicate strokes of water colour for Celebrating Glorious Heritage of Karachi

Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi hosted an exhibition of famous Artist Hamir Soomro, titled Glorious Heritage of Karachi at Ahmed Parvez Art Gallery on Sunday.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab along with President Arts Council Muhammad Ahmad Shah, US Consul General Nicole Theriot was also present on this occasion.

Theriot expressing his pleasure to see the exhibition said, "Soomro has narrated history through art.

I love the city of Karachi." She acknowledged that ACP is taking great steps to promote art and culture including display of various performance- based projects worked on jointly by ACP and American Artists, which will strengthen the cultural relations between the two countries.

Wahab while talking about the exhibition said, there was a need to inculcate positive thinking to make Karachi a liveable city again.

"We are past our time, but our future generations will see a beautiful Karachi," he said.

The politics of discrimination need to end.

Regarding ACP he said, "we will try to make this place a cultural complex.

Faizi Rehman Art Gallery will be rebuilt here." ACP President Ahmed Shah said, "it is a matter of pride for us that the beautiful art of Hamir Soomro is on display here.

Hamir Soomro beautifully described by his watercolours how Karachi used to be." Parsi, Hindu, Muslim architects are seen in Soomro's works.
