Not a taunt: Shaista Lodhi feels no shame in being mistaken for her son’s girlfriend, sibling
During a candid interview, television host and actor Shaista Lodhi recently shared her experiences of being mistaken for her son's girlfriend. Lodhi revealed that in Pakistan, people tend to be condescending towards women who maintain their youthful appearance as they grow older. However, she noted that such assumptions and remarks are unique to Pakistan and do not reflect a global perspective.
Lodhi appeared on Hasna Mana Hai, and was asked whether she has ever been mistaken as her kids’ sibling or partner, by an audience member. Recounting instances where people have mistaken her son for her boyfriend, she revealed that during outings with her children, strangers often approach them, commenting on how they resemble a couple or even siblings. However, instead of clarifying the misunderstanding, Lodhi embraces the attention and enjoys the moment.
"If you've had kids at a young age then is that also my fault? Apparently, that becomes a taunt too here," she said. "This is like a usual routine for us now. Whenever I go out for groceries or something with my kids, people do stop us and say we look like siblings or partners," Lodhi shared.
When asked if she corrects them, she responded with a playful laugh, stating that she sees no need to do so. Lodhi takes pride in her well-maintained appearance and believes it is a testament to her efforts. She confidently explained, "Why should I lie about it? It feels good that I have maintained myself even at this age.”
The television host also highlighted the importance of consistency in one's routine, attributing her age-defying looks to her daily commitment to self-care. Lodhi shared that she wakes up every day and takes charge of her household, acting as the alarm for her family.
Earlier this year, Lodhi clapped back at a troll who tried to shame her for her age and her earnings. The troll commented on Lodhi's appearance and suggested that her way of dressing was not suitable for her age. Furthermore, the troll also criticised her earnings, claiming that money could not hide anything.
“Don't you think you shouldn't post such pictures because you’re so old?” questioned the self-appointed critic. “Doesn't matter if you’re earning well. You can't hide your age. Have some shame."
However, Lodhi did not remain silent and hit back at the troll with grace and confidence. She advised the troll to stop being delusional. “Also, please stop being delusional,” responded Lodhi. “Nobody is hiding their age, and it doesn't have to do anything with earning well, my dear.”
