ISLAMABAD:

The federal government has established the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council, which comprises nine members including the secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health and the chief nursing administrator of the Pakistan Armed Forces.

The council also includes representatives from each province.

According to the official gazette notification, the formation of the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council has been approved by the federal cabinet.

The council members include Ijaz Ali Kalhari from Sindh, Azizullah Kakar from Balochistan, and Fazal Maula from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). Farzana Zulfiqar Ali will represent Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), while Shahid Hussain will be the member representing the federal capital. Additionally, prominent figure Jawad Amin Khan and Dr GM Chaudhry will also serve as council members.

Mushtaq Soomro has been appointed to the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council by the Ministry of Health. However, it is worth noting that Soomro is currently under investigation and faces inquiries.

The Sindh government has issued a show cause notice against him as he holds the position of an assistant registrar, yet the notification refers to him as the deputy registrar.

Sources have indicated that following the amendment of the Act, all positions within the Nursing Council will undergo changes, including re-designation.

The first council meeting is expected to take place next week.
