IHC grants interim bails to PTI leaders
The Islamabad High Court on Thursday granted interim bails to PTI senior leaders Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Asad Qaiser and Asad Umar in cases related to the May 9 violence.
The court granted the bail against surety bonds of Rs500,000 each.
Hearing the bail pleas, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri remarked that in the eyes of the court, the case of a pushcart vendor or any other person was equal.
Former federal ministers Qureshi and Umar appeared before the court accompanied by their lawyers.
The public prosecutor took the stand that the rules were not followed while filing the petitions of Qureshi and Umar.
The judge remarked that the petitioners were only responsible to their own extent and had nothing to do with the co-accused.
He added that if the conditions the public prosecutor was suggesting were applied, nobody would be able to file their pleas.
The special prosecutor pleaded for adjournment of Qaiser’s case, but the court rejected his request.
The statement of a witness, Inspector Habibullah, was read before the court.
Justice Jahangiri observed that no witness had mentioned Qaiser’s name.
He continued that whether it was the PTI, PPP or anyone else, the law was the same for all.
