Officials told to get clogged drains cleared

Abbottabad district admin gears up for rainy season

The Abbottabad district administration Thursday reviewed arrangements put in place for the restoration of sewerage systems, cleaning of drains, and eliminating urban flooding risks during the rainy season.

According to a statement, Deputy Commissioner Khalid Iqbal chaired a meeting to also discuss matters related to encroachments on drains. The DC ordered TMAs, the cantonment board, WSSCA, local government, and irrigation departments to clear clogged drains.

He also emphasised the cooperation of citizens in the cleanliness and anti-encroachment drives.

Khalid Iqbal directed the irrigation department, WSSCA, and cantonment board, to immediately initiate the work of drain cleaning. Instructions were also issued to the Sui Gas, PTCL, and WAPDA to coordinate and ensure the shifting of utility lines and pipes obstructing drains, as well as provide uninterrupted services to the citizens.

The meeting was attended by ADC Jabriel Raza, ADC Relief and Human Rights Rabia Sajjad, AC Saqlain Salim, and DSP Headquarters Raja Bashir.

Citizens were requested to support the administration in eliminating encroachments and cleaning drains, and avoid throwing garbage in drains and sewers so that the cleanliness work can be effectively completed.
