Pakistani student at Cambridge introduces tipping model for artisans
Owais Shah, a Pakistani student pursuing a Master of Studies in Entrepreneurship at the prestigious Cambridge University, has made waves with his groundbreaking tipping model that directly benefits industrial professionals.
Through his social venture, "Duvita," Shah has pioneered a unique tipping system that allows customers to tip the artisans and craftsmen responsible for creating the products they purchase.
In Shah's online venture, customers are given the option to add a tip to the price of the products they buy. They can enter their desired tip amount and proceed with the payment. What sets this model apart is that Duvita matches the customer's tip, ensuring that the artisans and skilled workers receive additional financial support. Shah was inspired to start this venture after witnessing the unprecedented inflation rate, which reached 40 per cent in May.
One customer, Rehan Siddiqui, recently experienced the tipping system while shopping at Duvita and expressed his appreciation for the concept. He found the idea of tipping artisans and craftspeople particularly touching, as he had previously only tipped salesmen in showrooms and shops. This new way of tipping brought him greater satisfaction, knowing that he was directly supporting the rightful recipients of his generosity.
Khalid Nay, an artisan with 25 years of experience crafting shoes, shared his gratitude for being tipped for the first time. The tips received from customers, combined with the additional contribution from the company, have increased his income by 20 per cent, helping him cope with the rising inflation. Shah hopes that other companies will adopt similar tipping systems based on his successful experience.
