Call to improve trade among SAARC members
Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman has said that Pakistan is fully committed to improving regional trade among Saarc member countries to make South Asia a prosperous and economically integrated region as it is one of the most dynamic regions in the world.
Talking to a delegation of the Saarc Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday, the governor stressed that the business community had a vital role to play in Pakistan’s economic uplift and praised the private sector for making crucial contribution to economic development.
Emphasising that the strengthening of the economy and promotion of trade were the government’s priorities, he said that the government had steered the economy out of crisis by making sincere efforts.
“Now, Pakistan’s economy is showing signs of stability, which bodes well for its development and prosperity.”
The governor reiterated the government’s commitment to restoring peace and ensuring prosperity in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) region as Pakistan wanted to forge bilateral and trade relations with regional countries on the basis of mutual respect.
Speaking on the occasion, Saarc Chamber Vice President Mian Anjum Nisar urged the governor to play his part in removing trade barriers including the acceptance of product standard certificates and easing of infrastructure limitations at dry ports.
He pointed out that Pakistan had always strived to make Saarc an important vehicle for regional cooperation based on the principle of equality.
