KARACHI:

In a ghastly case of murder, police have detained the daughter of the victim as the prime suspect.

In a tragic turn of events unfolding in the most posh locality of Lalazar neighbourhood, a grade 18 officer of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) died during treatment at Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital on Tuesday with a stab wound to chest besides marks of fingernails on face and upper torso.

Within hours of initial investigations and interviews of the domestic staff and children of the deceased, police arrested his daughter Hiba. Docks police station SHO Pervez Solangi told The Express Tribune that Atiqur Rehman was seriously injured after being hit by a sharp instrument during a quarrel with his daughter Hiba at their home in Lalazar late on Monday night. He was immediately shifted to Civil Hospital where he died during treatment.

SHO further said that first wife of Atiqur Rahman had died, with whom he had three children. Rehman remarried and his second wife bore him four children.

The seven children and the couple lived in the same house. Rehman's second wife had gone to her village with her children, and he was at home with his three elder children.

SHO Solangi quoting the domestic staff and family members said that on Monday night Rehman reprimanded Hiba on leaving the front door of the house open. However, the argument spiraled out of control. During the verbal spat, Rehman was seriously injured by a sharp instrument, Solangi said adding it was not clear presently as to who delivered the blow. However, the household members rushed him to Civil Hospital where he died during treatment.
