At 12th JCC, Pakistan and China strengthen ties
The 12th (Special) Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meeting of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was successfully held in Beijing on Tuesday, solidifying the robust partnership between the two nations.
Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, and Vice Chairman of China’s National Development & Reform Commission (NDRC), Cong Liang, co-chaired the meeting, which saw the presence of senior officials and representatives from various ministries and departments associated with CPEC matters.
Addressing the gathering, Iqbal highlighted the significance of CPEC, describing it as an extraordinary endeavour that symbolises the deep-rooted ties between China and Pakistan. He acknowledged the monumental role this visionary project has played in transforming the region’s economic landscape, fostering connectivity, enhancing trade, and creating opportunities for shared prosperity.
Underlining the national priority accorded to CPEC within the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership, Iqbal emphasised the potential for further collaboration and expansion in sectors such as agriculture, industry, technology, and mining.
Iqbal commended the hard work of the JCC and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to providing consistent policies and a favourable environment for Chinese companies and citizens working in the country.
During the meeting, the conveners of the Joint Working Groups (JWGs) on Energy, Transport Infrastructure, and Gwadar Port presented updates on the progress made in their respective areas and outlined future plans of action.
The JCC highlighted the importance of key projects in energy and infrastructure development, which are now operational and providing numerous opportunities for socio-economic advancement in Pakistan.
