Family stops to buy cake, gets robbed

Complaint states four armed miscreants carried out the bid

KARACHI:

Armed suspects, in a robbery bid, snatched gold ornaments and cash worth more than Rs1.6 million from women sitting in a vehicle outside the Famous Bakers in Federal B Area and fled.

According to the complainant filed by Muhammad Adil Haroon at Joharabad police station he was taking his family, including his mother, wife, sister and three children to a function in their double-cabin pickup. Haroon said he had parked the vehicle outside Famous Bakery and went in to buy a cake.

However, as he came out, he saw that a man had opened the door of the car and held the family hostage at gunpoint looting them. Haroon said he did not raise any alarm, lest the suspect might open fire and hurt the women and children.

He said that he saw that there were four muggers, one who robbed his family and his rider and two others standing guard with weapons in their hands. After the accused left, he went to his family, everyone was very scared and they said that the accused took two gold chains, five gold rings, a diamond ring, two and a half lakh rupees in cash and an expensive mobile phone.

Haroon said the total weight of stolen gold ornaments was about 6.5 tolas while the accused also took away a purse containing gold rings and some money.
