‘Invasive plants proving detrimental for ecosystem’

Environmentalists Monday raised concerns about the rapid depletion of groundwater levels in parts of the federal capital due to invasive plants such as the Paper Mulberry tree.
They were speaking at a public hearing held by the Environment Wing of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) at the Gandhara Citizen Club, F-9 Park, Islamabad.
The hearing focused on the restoration of the ecosystem and the eradication of wild mulberry and invasive plants. Attendees included the CDA member environment, environment DG, inspection DG, CDA regional director, and other CDA officers.
Various private and public institutions, as well as individuals from diverse backgrounds, took part in the public hearing.
During the hearing, the attendees highlighted the presence of invasive plants in different areas of Islamabad.
