KARACHI:

Jamaat-e-Islami's Ameer in Karachi Engr Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has called upon the Sindh government to transfer charge of towns, offices, and vehicles to the elected local government representatives who have been deprived of these responsibilities despite taking their oath. While speaking at a press conference at the JI's Karachi headquarters, Rehman expressed concerns over the alleged corruption during the transition period, stating that individuals from rural Sindh have been unfairly appointed to the local bodies, replacing the local officials.

Regarding the local government budget, he emphasised that the budget document had been backdated and approved by the previous administrator, which is unacceptable. He demanded that the government convene the budget session of the city council and ensure the budget's approval according to the law.

Rehman also urged the government to allocate Karachi its due share in motor vehicle tax and the PFC Award. Highlighting the issue of rain drains and cleanliness, he criticised the reported allocation of a Rs800 million contract for rain drain cleaning, with no visible progress. He expressed grave concerns over the potential submergence of Karachi's suburbs during the upcoming rain spells.
