‘Sanctity of Holy Quran Day’ observed
People from various walks of life Friday observed Sanctity of Quran Day in Rawalpindi against the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden.
Large numbers of participants from different religious and political organisations, including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan, and Jamaat Ahle Sunnat gathered after Friday prayers outside mosques, schools, and at markets.
The rallies caused severe traffic congestion on road including the Murree Road. Hanif Abbasi, Raheeq Qadwusi, and former Mayor Sardar Naseem Khan led the PML-N rally, holding banners and slogans against Sweden. Hanif Abbasi emphasised that protecting the Quran is a religious duty and expressed global Muslim outrage over its desecration.
They demanded that until the issue is resolved, there should be no diplomatic relations with Sweden.
On the same day, various rallies were held, including a significant one by traders in Tench Bhatta Bazaar. The TLP organised the largest rally in the garrison city after Friday prayers. Protesters demanded immediate action, severing diplomatic ties with Sweden, and global protests against the country.
The protest gatherings ended peacefully before sunset prayers.
