ISLAMABAD:

The Federal Investigation Agency said that six suspects wanted by the Punjab police in major offences were detained with the help of Interpol in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The suspects have since been transferred to Pakistan and handed over to the Punjab police, they added.

The arrest took place due to the coordination between the NCBs of Pakistan and UAE. The NCB serves as the focal point for any country’s Interpol activities.

Officials said that the NCB Pakistan issued red notices for the arrest of 117 individuals wanted in connection with multiple cases, after completing legal requirements for their extradition. The red notices were issued on the recommendation of the Punjab Police and other law enforcement agencies, they said.

The accused were identified as Qamar Shehzad, Tauqeer Butt, Bustan Hasan, Saim Zaib, Waqar Azim, and Naseem Abbas. These arrested suspects were wanted by police in Attock, Vehari, Gujranwala, Pakpattan and Toba Tek Singh.

Following their extradition, the FIA Immigration turned over the accused over to the police units in the corresponding districts.

A total of 90 suspects wanted by the Punjab Police have been detained this year after being apprehended overseas or while attempting to flee the country with the help of NCB.
